This is the moment an outraged shop owner aged 77 slaps a cheeky conman around the face after he caught the customer lying about whether he paid or not.

The incident took place in the district of Kemalpasa in the western Turkish province of Izmir when the middle-aged customer tried to trick the elderly shop owner identified as Behcet Sari.

According to local media, the suspected conman took out a 100 TRY (15 GBP) note to buy a packet of cigarettes.

When Sari told him that the price was 11 TRY (1.6 GBP), the balding man reportedly said that he also wanted to buy a fizzy drink and nipped to the fridge to get one.

When he came back to the counter, Sari claimed that he had handed over the 100 TRY note and demanded his change but he had put it back in his pocket.

Sari was not fooled by the man’s alleged trick and leaned across the counter to slap his face, forcing the man to reach in his pocket and extract the note.

The incident was filmed by a CCTV camera and uploaded to social media. Afterwards, Sari told reporters: “He placed 2 TRY (0.3 GBP) on the counter, but kept hold of his 100 TRY note in his hand.

“He then went to get the drink as I sorted out his change. I opened the bottle drink and he put the 100 TRY note in his pocket.

“When I opened the bottle, he said to me ‘give me my change’ and I pointed out that he hadn’t given me enough money.

“He insisted that he gave me the 100 TRY note, and I assured him that he didn’t and that he actually placed it in his pocket.

“I then insisted that he take the note out and he eventually handed it over.

“In that moment, I was furious and so I slapped his face and asked ‘why did you lie to me?’ but he did not react at all. He took his change and left the shop.”
