This is the moment a mountainside gives way during a massive landslide which covers a road in 75,000 square feet of rocks and boulders.

The incident happened in the township of Jimu, which is in Jinchuan County in China’s south-western Sichuan Province, on the morning of 25th September.

A video filmed by a local policeman, who was standing on a nearby bridge with a partner, shows him recording the mountainside when the trickle of falling stones suddenly gives way to the large rockslide.

He gasps and ducks for cover as the mountainside slides off, sending huge boulders of various sizes crashing onto the road below.

In a video taken by a bystander, residents can be seen screaming and running away from the bridge as the rockslide takes place.

Aerial footage shows the landslide covering the whole road and part of the same bridge with what authorities said was over 75,000 square feet of rock.

Many of the boulders are also seen resting in a large pile in the river of Dajin.

Jinchuan County police officers had closed off the road moments before the incident after local residents noticed falling stones and an initial, smaller rockslide.

The roads were luckily clear when the second larger landslide hit, cutting off the road leading to and from the city of Barkam, which is about 55 miles away in Sichuan’s Ngawa Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture.

The authorities were still clearing the road and had yet to deem it safe for use at the time of writing.
