According to an official statement, police officers and members of the Mexican Secretariat of National Defence found 134 migrants, among them 71 children, in the back of the lorry.

The dehydrated migrants were cared for by officials on the scene while reports said that some of them managed to escape, although this is currently unconfirmed by the local authorities.

In the footage, dozens of people are seen being helped out of the lorry as a woman is heard saying “there are children” and “the Central American migrants are coming out”.

One day before, the authorities in Veracruz rescued 101 Central American migrants and arrested one person for human trafficking.
