7 Killed As Roof Collapses On Revellers During Festival

This is the moment a roof collapses on top of screaming festival goers killing seven people and injuring over 40 others.

The incident took place during an event called ‘Dos Estrellas’ (‘Two Stars’) in honour of Saint Francis of Assisi in the district of Huancan in the city of Huancayo located in the central Peruvian region of Junin.

According to local media, the roof collapsed due to a period of heavy rains and hailstones that hit the area over the weekend.

The video shows the moment the roof collapses on top of dozens of revellers as survivors scream and run from the scene.

The second clip shows the local authorities inspecting the scene after the deadly roof collapse.

According to reports, six people were trapped under the rubble and died on the spot while a seventh victim, identified as 35-year-old Jaime Olivera Cordova, succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital.

Another victim was identified as Alder Unsihuay, who was the leader of the band hired to perform at the event.

Police spokesman Alejandro Oviedo said that the deceased are five men and two women.

Over 40 people were injured in the incident and they were transferred to various health centres in the city.

Meanwhile, the local authorities have opened an investigation against the building owner for not having the necessary licences to stage the event, according to reports.

The investigation is ongoing.
