6yo Spectator Killed By Crazy Horse At Racetrack

A six-year-old boy has been killed and three adults have been injured after a racehorse reportedly went berserk before careering into a spectators’ stand at an Argentine race track.

The incident took place on 26th January at the Santa Rosa Equestrian Events Social and Sport Club in the city of Mendoza located in the western Argentine province of the same name after the young victim, identified as Zahir Aguirre Gonzalez, went with his family to see the horse race.

According to eyewitnesses, the horse suddenly went berserk near the end of the race and careered into a stand where spectators were watching.

An unnamed spectator told local media: “The horse came to the end of the race and suddenly rushed at people behind a fence.”

The witness added that “the horse was crazy” and the jockey was unable to control the animal.

Reports said the jockey was sent crashing to the ground in the incident and was also injured.

Meanwhile, the six-year-old boy was taken to a city hospital, but died on 28th January of a serious head injury.

The youngster had reportedly been in a coma since being admitted in the hospital on the day of the horse race.

Prosecutor Hector Gustavo Rosas told local media that the race was authorised and that the horse in question has been sent for checks to establish whether it was under the effects of medication or an illegal substance.

Reports said that no one has been arrested yet and the investigation is ongoing.
