A father has been jailed for more than 67 years after he stabbed his 21-year-old daughter to death when she tried to stop him from attacking her mother.
The dad, Claudinei Tizon, then 42, had a history of domestic violence, but also injured other people in the brutal attack in the Brazilian municipality of Rodeio on 12th April last year (2021).
He had been married to his then 39-year-old wife for 23 years and towards the end of the relationship, he kept her imprisoned. Eventually, she managed to escape to her parents’ house and call police.
The dad allegedly flew into a furious rage when he discovered that his ex-wife had escaped and taken out a restraining order against him for violence, and he attacked her at her parents’ home.
The restraining order had unfortunately not yet been enforced when he allegedly attacked her and killed his daughter with three blows, including one that hit her in the heart, killing her instantly when she got in the way while he was in a furious rage.
The man’s daughter, Gessica Dias Tizon, 21, had begged him not to kill her mum and had been stabbed as a result.
The man also managed to stab his ex-wife, and the dead girl’s grandparents, then aged 56 and 61. The victim’s uncle, then aged 34, was also attacked, and although all of them were injured and hospitalised, they eventually survived.
The police had accompanied the woman to the house she shared with her ex, where she gathered her belongings and took her two youngest children to their grandparents’ house, where the crime later took place.
The two children, both of whom are minors, are believed to have witnessed the crime but were not attacked themselves. Their older sister, who was the one killed, had also been there.
Officers said the suspect also fired shots with a rifle, but none of the shots hit anyone.
After carrying out the attack, the suspect fled some 50 metres (164 ft) to his own house, which the police found empty with blood on the kitchen floor.
The jailed man had also been injured, although it is unclear if the wounds were self-inflicted or as a result of the fighting, and he was taken to hospital before being charged with them aside and four counts of attempted homicide.
The investigation is ongoing.
