These images show how a man set his roof on fire while trying to ‘evict’ some pesky wasps using a spray can of deodorant and a lighter causing half a million euros worth of damage to the property.

The incident took place in the city of Pulheim in the western German state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

The 36-year-old man, who has not been named, told police that he had tried to deal with wasps under his roof by spraying a canister of deodorant at their nest and lighting the spray with a lighter, according to German newspaper Express.

The newspaper also reports that as a result of his action, a wooden beam caught fire.

Unable to tackle the growing blaze himself, the man called the fire brigade. The firefighters managed to put out the blaze before it could spread to adjacent buildings.

But the man’s house is currently uninhabitable as the roof structure went completely up in smoke. It took the fire department about two hours to put the fire out.

The damage to the property is estimated to be around 500,000 EUR (451,000 GBP). It is unclear if the man’s insurance will cover the damage.
