This is the moment a four-year-old girl lies down in a shaded car park entrance to cool down and is nearly squashed by a SUV driver who manages to stop just after he slowly drives into her.

According to local media, the child was hospitalised with a chest injury but has since been released.

The incident was filmed by a CCTV camera in the city of Longyan in the south-eastern Chinese province of Fujian and later shared on social media.

In the footage, the young girl is seen playing at the building’s entrance before lying on the shaded ground, reportedly to cool off from the hot temperatures.

In the next scene, an SUV is about to pass through the entrance when the driver, who is reportedly a short man, notices that something is amiss and stops the vehicle.

However, after pausing he appears to roll forwards slightly over the girl’s chest before slamming on the brakes.

He reverses away from the girl and then gets out of the vehicle to check on her before the tot’s concerned father appears and picks her up.

A police spokesperson told local media: “The girl suffered slight injuries after being partially run over by the car.

“Following medical treatment, the little girl has been released from hospital.

“The child’s parents own a convenience store next to the entrance and at the time they were unaware that their daughter was lying on the ground.

“The SUV driver is not tall and did not pay proper attention to the road. He will have to pay compensation to the girl’s family.”
