This footage shows the moment a group of firemen find a young boy dangling by his neck from a set of burglar bars on the third floor of the block of flats where he lives.

Rescuers were called to the residential block in the county of Junan, which is in the city of Linyi in China’s eastern Shandong Province, after the child’s grandad found the boy hanging and crying outside their sitting-room window.

The grandfather later explained that he had been asleep in his room, while the boy’s parents left to run an errand, leaving the four-year-old to wander around on his own on 7th October.

The curious boy is thought to have climbed onto the burglar bars to play but fell through the gap between the metal rods, which left him hanging from outside their third-floor window, right above a vertical fall onto the pavement below.

Neighbours and other local residents can be seen holding out a large blanket below in case the tot falls, while some seven rescuers take part in the rescue operation.

The firefighters tied a rope around the boy’s chest to stop him from slipping through the burglar bars, while one rescue is seen expanding and bending the bars using a pair of hydraulic spreaders.

The boy is then lifted through the gap and back into his home, the video shows.

The child was not harmed.
