No fewer than 47 shreds of paper have so far been removed from a girl’s eye since September after three class bullies allegedly held her down and forced pieces of their workbooks under her eyelids multiple times.

Ms Li, mother to the seven-year-old victim, said only one of the boys’ families has apologised over the shocking case since it was reported earlier this week.

The girl, who attends Dajian Primary School in the township of Mojie, which is in Yuzhou City in China’s central province of Henan, had the paper shreds stuffed into her left eye on numerous occasions before the alleged bullying was discovered on 28th September, reports said.

The local education bureau said was taken to the Chinese capital Beijing for tests on 25th October, with Beijing Tongren Hospital saying there were no additional traces of paper shreds in the girl’s eye.

The facility also reported that she was not expected to suffer any long-term damage to her eyesight despite currently experiencing impaired vision.

However, Ms Li told local media another piece of paper had fallen out her daughter’s eye in the early hours of 13th November.

It was the 47th shred of yellow or white exercise book page discovered in the child’s left eye.

Officials reported that Ms Li and the bullies’ families had signed compensation agreements. She is therefore not expected to pursue further legal action.

The mum revealed to local media that one of the boys’ fathers had offered an apology, but the relatives of the remaining two bullies have not said sorry.

Both the school’s headmaster, Mr Wang, and the girl’s class teacher were ordered to pen ‘self-criticisms’ – a Communist Party disciplinary action involving written self-reflection.

Mr Wang had previously denied bullying allegations and saying the boys were simply “playing and having fun”.

An investigation led by Yuzhou City’s mayor is ongoing.
