35K Letters In 1 Day For COVID Patients After Drs Plea

A Spanish doctor who asked citizens to write to isolated COVID-19 patients has already garnered over 35,000 letters in one day.

Doctor Cristina Marin Campos, who works at the Hospital Universitario de La Princesa in the central Spanish capital Madrid, and she recently asked netizens to write to quarantined patients affected with COVID-19.

She said: “The situation is quite bad in the hospital, there are many infected people admitted here and the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) is overwhelmed.

“One of the problems patients admitted with coronavirus (COVID-19) have is that they are in total isolation, completely alone, without their family.

“Many of them are aware that their relatives are in other wards or they are even dying.”

She then called on residents to write to the affected patients and the Government of the Community of Madrid has confirmed that over 35,000 letters had been received in 24 hours.

Doctor Marin Campos said: “I have spoken with the doctors responsible for the infected group, as well as pulmonologists, who have seen the most admissions in the hospital, and they have promised to give all the patients the anonymous letters.”
