The body of a 34-year-old Romanian woman has been found wrapped in a bedsheet in a wheelie bin in southern Spain with her wealthy real estate boyfriend suspected of her murder.

The victim’s remains were found with stab wounds and her throat cut by waste collectors in the neighbourhood of La Sabatera de Moraira in the coastal town of Moraira in the eastern Spanish province of Alicante.

The victim has been identified as Romanian citizen Alina Mocanu, 34, and she reportedly leaves behind a 14-year-old son.

According to local media, the autopsy revealed that Mocanu also suffered cuts to her arms and wrist which experts believe were sustained when she tried to protect herself.

Her boyfriend, Danish citizen Arthur Karvink, has turned himself over to Spanish cops and reportedly confessed to slitting Mocanu’s throat.

He runs a real estate business called Brilliant Real Estate in Moraira which he reportedly founded in 2016.

The suspect reportedly has a criminal record for gender-based violence as well as a restraining order to stay away from the Romanian victim which had recently expired.

He had reportedly attacked her before but had not been convicted after she refused to testify against him. The investigation is ongoing.

Local media called it the first murder related to gender violence in the autonomous community of Valencia in 2020.

Since 2003 when Spanish authorities started to keep records of murders related to gender violence, 1,044 women have been killed by their partners or former partners.
