This is the moment three people frantically scramble to safety when their car stalls on railway tracks and a train smashes into it seconds later.

CCTV security camera footage shows the driver and two passengers scrambling to get out of the car as the train approaches in the town of Valle de Chalco, in the central Mexican state of Mexico.

One barely escapes with his life when he jumps out of the front seat passenger door as the train hits the black Nissan Versa car and he is almost dragged along with it.

Eyewitnesses alerted emergency services and all three were treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to a local hospital to be checked over. None was seriously hurt.

The CCTV footage shows the driver and a back seat passenger jump out of the car a split second before the train hits the vehicle.

But the front seat passenger did not react so fast and was still behind the vehicle when the train hit the car and shunted it for several metres along the tracks.

The car had stalled on the level crossing and the driver was unable to get it going again before the train from the Xochimilco area of nearby Mexico City arrived.

The video is proving popular on social media where netizen ‘Fernando Rodriguez Linares’ commented: “They are lucky to be alive.”

And ‘10093alex’ said: “They must not know the traffic rules which says the driver should stop his vehicle at least three metres away from the tracks and should look and check the train is not coming.”
