This two-year-old boy has died after being beaten and sexually abused and his stepfather has been charged with carrying out the brutal attack.

The incident took place in the municipality of Madrid, in the central Colombian department of Cundinamarca and the unnamed suspect has been arrested.

Meanwhile the mum of the deceased tot – named Dominic Smith – has reportedly gone on the run.

The toddler was reportedly taken to a hospital by his mother and stepfather who said he had choked. The doctors are said to have checked the tot and found he had signs of having been beaten and sexually abused.

The injuries from the beating and sexual abuse are said to have been the cause of the tot’s death after doctors could not save him.

The doctors then called the police who arrested the stepfather. The mother of the toddler managed to escape and is still being searched for by the authorities.

Johan Estiven Villarraga, the father of the toddler, told local media: “The only thing I ask is for justice to be done, for those two to pay for the death of my son. She is missing, we do not know where she is.”

The tot’s uncle Jonathan Villarraga said: “We do not know where she lived. But the kid was abused for a long time, why? The mum knew he (the boyfriend) was abusing him and she said nothing. The problem is that she never let us help her.”

Carlos Manuel Silva, the Director of the Prosecution of Cundinamarca told local media that the suspect is facing 37 years in prison for the crime as he has been charged with homicide and sexual abuse of a minor under 14.
