The family of a 26-year-old man arrested on allegations he raped his sister on four occasions since she was 11 years old has persuaded a court to free him on bail – so he could still get married this weekend.
The suspect, who works as a security guard, has been charged by the Ayer Keroh Sessions Court for allegedly raping his sister on four occasions in June 2014, March 2018, May 2019 and April this year.
The alleged rapes took place at the family’s home in the district of Jasin in the Malaysian state of Malacca.
The abuse reportedly started when the victim was 11 years old, and she is now a 17-year-old Form Five student.
The defendant, the eldest of four siblings, pleaded not guilty to five charges on 14th July.
He is reportedly charged with four counts of incest, punishable with a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison and a whipping.
The groom-to-be was also charged with criminal intimidation and forcefully touching the victim, punishable with a jail term of up to 10 years or a whipping, according to news site Says.
The defendant and his family begged the court to grant him bail so that his wedding could still go ahead this weekend.
His mother in particular reportedly pleaded with the court to allow her son to be released on bail so he could still get married.
Their requests were successful and the defendant’s bail was set for 10,000 (1,866 GBP).
The next hearing will take place on 17th August.
