This beautiful 20-year-old model has died after jumping into the sea to save her boyfriend from drowning and becoming stranded herself.

Model Maria Fernanda Aguilar, 20, who participated in the TV programme Desafio Superhumanos (Superhuman Challenge) in 2018, was reportedly trying to save her boyfriend Julian Gonzalez as he was struggling in the water at a beach in the municipality of Puerto Colombia, in the northern Colombian department of Atlantico.

Her aunt Sarid Aguilar, told local media outlet El Heraldo: “That day they a group of around eight people were in a house. According to her friend, he heard Julian and Maria Fernanda’s screams and tried to save them but failed.

“He asked the lifeguards for help but they told him that it was too dangerous to go into the water because they only had one life vest and the jet-ski was not available as it did not have any petrol. They had to wait more than two hours to get somebody to help them.”

Local media report they were eventually brought out of the water and taken to a nearby hospital but Aguilar died despite the doctors’ best efforts.

Her boyfriend is still hospitalised but his condition is unclear. Aguilar’s exact cause of death has not been reported.

She had previously been chosen as Miss Virtual for the city of Barranquilla, the capital of the Atlantico department.
