This is the touching moment a 20-year-old coronavirus patient is applauded as he leaves an intensive care unit with his thumbs up in his fight against the disease.

The 20-year-old patient named in reports as Marvin, was being treated in an intensive care unit (ICU) at the Gregorio Maranon Hospital located in the Spanish capital of Madrid for coronavirus.

The video shows the moment Marvin left the ICU on Monday 30th March as a medical worker pushes his bed and the man filming can be heard saying: “Here the first discharge. Well done!”

Several medical staff start clapping as the man filming is heard asking the patient: “Marvin, how are you? Are you OK?”

The young man, who still seems to be weak from the illness, does not speak but gives a thumbs up saying he is okay and waves at the staff as they say goodbye and tell him to take care.

Local media report Marvin has not been discharged from the hospital but is the youngest patient to be released from the facility’s ICU.

The hospital gave further positive news reporting a further 80 patients being allowed to return to their homes after covering from COVID-19 on the same day.

Madrid Health Counsellor Enrique Ruiz Escudero told local media “a horizon of hope” is emerging as the number of new daily cases has reportedly started to go down with respect to previous days.

Spain has been one of the hardest-hit countries by COVID-19. According to the latest figures from Johns Hopkins University, there have been 110,238 reported cases leading to 10,003 deaths.
