This is the moment the first female Mayor of the Colombian capital Bogota is confirmed and celebrates by kissing her partner in front of the cameras.
Claudia Lopez, who was running for the left-wing political party Polo Alternativo Democratico, is seen in the video passionately kissing her partner, delegate Angelica Lozano.
According to local media, the new Colombian mayor won with 35.21 percent of the votes, with her closest rival Carlos Fernando Galan of the liberal party Partido Cambio Radical earning 32.48 percent of the votes, becoming the first woman to run the city.
The 49-year-old is also the first gay woman to become the Mayor of the Colombian capital.
When she was asked about her enthusiastic way of celebrating the result she told local media: “It is not a challenge, welcome to the 21st century. I have never done it in public (a kiss), I have always separated my private life from the public, I do not do it because it is disrespectful, but because I feel more relaxed (in privacy). Love will never be disrespectful.”
Lopez started her political career in the nineties as a senator and a political scientist actively involved in the fight against corruption in the city and in ecological projects.
Colombia elected more than 3,300 positions in Sunday’s regional elections, including mayors, governors and municipal and regional assemblies.
