This is the moment a 19-year-old female circus acrobat plummets to the ground after a rope broke at the start of her routine before reportedly screaming in agony.

The incident was filmed in the city of Hunedoara in the western Romanian county of the same name and was later shared on social media.

The teen acrobat, who goes by the stage name ‘Miss Virginia’, was employed by a travelling Hungarian circus, according to local media.

Shocked parents and young children were in the audience when she fell around four metres (13 feet) after the rope she was holding snapped, as seen in the video footage.

The incident happened at the start of the show and circus staff immediately called the emergency services.

Miss Virginia was taken to the Hunedoara Hospital with multiple fractures and is said to be under close supervision.

One spectator told local media: “I was there with my four-year-old son, but a few minutes after Miss Virginia started her routine, she plummeted to the ground.

“Everyone around was in shock and we could hear the acrobat screaming in pain.

“When I left with my son, we were both shaking after what we saw.”

The local authorities have confirmed that they are investigating the incident.
