A 17-year-old boy has been arrested for shooting his father and stepmother dead because they confiscated his phone for over a month during the COVID-19 lockdown.

The teenage suspected, identified as Victor, allegedly killed his 38-year-old dad Emmanuel and his wife of two years Micarla at a ranch on the outskirts of Villarejo de Montalban in the central Spanish province of Toledo.

According to a preliminary investigation, the teen reportedly shot his father in the back twice and his stepmum in the back once.

The teen claimed that he went to a neighbour’s house when he heard gunshots coming from the ranch and he returned to find the victims dead on the floor, according to local media.

Victor and the owner of the ranch called the police who reportedly found the property ransacked.

However, after investigating the scene, cops ruled out the theory that a robbery was taking place when the pair was shot, according to reports.

The police quizzed the teen suspect who made contradictory statements before reportedly admitting to the crime.

Spanish digital newspaper El Confidencial said the shooting took place because the father had confiscated his son’s mobile phone for over a month during the lockdown, leaving the teen feeling totally isolated.

The local authorities have not yet found the murder weapon.

Villarejo mayor Salvador Aguilar said that Emmanuel was well liked among villagers.

The investigation is ongoing.
