Alexa N. and her boyfriend Yovany N., both 18, were arrested in the city of Cuauthemoc in the north-western Mexican state of Chihuahua and charged with kidnapping and murder.

According to local media, the anti-kidnapping unit investigated the case when the victim’s parents reported their daughter’s disappearance and said that they were told to pay 300,000 MXN (12,120 GBP) for her release.

However, after initial contact with the alleged kidnappers, all communication stopped and police found the teen’s body in the rural area of Cerro del Pajaro.

Meanwhile, school friends claimed that the victim, identified as Adriana, became embroiled in a jealous row with the female suspect after she liked one of Yovany’s Facebook posts.

Reports said that they all attended the same school.

According to victim’s relatives, Adriana agreed to meet Alexa in the city centre to sort out their differences, but the suspect also showed up with her boyfriend Yovany.

Following a preliminary investigation, police said that Adriana was taken to the city’s outskirts and killed.

The suspects then allegedly contacted Adriana’s family to demand ransom.

The 17-year-old’s body was found with signs of strangulation and a knife wound to the neck, according to reports.

Stunned school friends paid tribute to Adriana and during the ceremony called her “happy”, “helpful” and “a good person”.

The investigation continues.
