Russian authorities spent nearly four hours rounding up 1,700 bats that had been found living on a small apartment balcony in a Ukrainian city.
The unusual scene was photographed at a flat in the city of Lviv in the western Ukrainian region of Lviv Oblast where officials found the colony of around 1,700 bats.

The local authorities reportedly spent over four hours collecting the winged mammals.
Andriy-Taras Bashta, spokesperson for the Institute of Ecology of the Carpathians of the National Academy of Science of Ukraine (IECNASU), said on social media: “1,700 bats were found on a balcony in Lviv. No doubt this is a record, at least for the Ukraine.”
He added that the photos do not convey how unusual the scene really was and claimed that “bats were everywhere”, even on cabinet shelves, in small crevices and inside vegetable sacks.

He helped to count the bats and said there were around 1,700 in total.
Andriy-Taras Bashta added: “As it is quite warm in Lviv right now, the bats were released and they set off to find a new winter home.”
