A 16-year-old student has been charged with stabbing his religious teacher 12 times to death for reprimanding him for smoking on the school grounds.
The incident took place at the SMK Ichthus School in the city of Manado in the northern Indonesian province of North Sulawesi and footage of the suspect allegedly stabbing the teacher has been viewed 430,000 times on Twitter.
According to local media, two students were assigned a task of planting flowers on the school grounds and after finishing the job, the teens sat down to smoke a cigarette.

Their 54-year-old religious teacher Alexander Valentino Weru Pangkey caught the boys and scolded them, sending one of the students home for violating the school’s no smoking policy.
The angry teen allegedly went home and retrieved a knife before returning to the school to attack the teacher, according to reports.
In the footage, the suspect is seen stabbing the teacher on the lawn before the victim gets to his feet and reportedly calls for help from nearby students and colleagues.

The injured teacher was taken to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries later that evening, according to local media.
Meanwhile, the unnamed 16-year-old has been charged for the teacher’s death and could face up to 20 years in prison, according to reports.
