15yo Girl Found Dead In Uni Lake, Classmate Arrested

A teenage boy has been arrested for killing a 15-year-old university student after her body was found in a campus lake days after she was reported as missing.

Jose Solis, Dean of the Chapingo Autonomous University in the central Mexican state of Mexico, told local media that the unnamed suspect is a classmate of the teenage victim, identified as Nazaret Bautista.

Solis also said that the suspect was arrested after allegedly making contradictory statements to the police.

Reports state the local authorities also have CCTV evidence of the suspect’s alleged involvement that is yet to be released.

Bautista, a first-year agriculture student, shared a dormitory with two classmates who said she was last seen going to Bar La Meche with the suspect on 19th December.

When she failed to return to the dormitory, the students reported her disappearance and a search was carried out.

On 24th December, the teen’s body was found in a small lake on the university grounds, according to reports.

The 15-year-old suspect is currently being held in preventative custody as the investigation continues.

The motive behind the girl’s death is currently unclear.

Reports state that the local authorities are offering psychological support to the victim’s family.

Meanwhile, students have staged a protest at the university to demand justice for Bautista as well as improved security.

Mexican students aged between 15 and 18 years old can choose between two main kinds of high school programs: one incorporated into the Secretariat of Public ‘s programme, and a University incorporated one, depending on the state.

The investigation is ongoing.
