These helpless poodles have been rescued from an illegal breeding centre after they were found surrounded by their own poo with fur so matted it looked like they had dreadlocks.

The illegal breeding centre in the city of Quilmes in the eastern Argentine province of Buenos Aires was reported to the authorities and officers led by Miguel Coch launched an operation to rescue the dogs kept there, according to local media.

Reports said that 13 dogs, seven male and six female, were rescued from the filthy centre where they were said to be surrounded by their own faeces.

The animals were checked by a vet and many of them had unspecified infections and illnesses.

The dogs were then taken to a nearby animal shelter where they are receiving treatment.

Animal rights organisation ‘Remis Mascotero’ shared photos of the rescued dogs where many appear underfed with dirty, matted fur.

The organisation said: “The four dogs in the background were in the worst condition and just left there to die.”

The organisation also said that the dogs cannot be adopted yet as they are still undergoing treatment.

According to the police, the animals were rescued from an illegal breeding centre that specialised in selling poodles over social media.

It is unclear whether anyone has been arrested yet.
