This 116-year-old woman has survived COVID 19 of spending three weeks in the ICU making her one of the world’s oldest people to beat the virus.
Ayse Karatay has now been moved from the intensive care unit (ICU) to the general ward at the City Hospital in the city of Eskisehir, which is located in Eskisehir in western Turkey.
The revelation was made by her son Ibrahim, who spoke to Turkish news agency Demiroren, saying that his mum had fallen ill last month.
He is quoted by local media as saying: “My mother fell ill at the age of 116 and stayed in the intensive care unit for three weeks… Her health is very good now and she is getting better.”
He also said that his mother had been given a shot of the Chinese Sinovac before she became infected with COVID-19.
Doctors believe that the 116-year-old woman became infected with the virus through one of her family members.
Karatay, who lives in the town of Emirdag, in Afyonkarahisar Province in western Turkey and who has eight children, was born during the Ottoman Empire, around 1905, at a time when official records were scarce.
