Twin brothers aged just 11 have been hailed as heroes after they drove an out-of-control SUV off a motorway after their mum blacked out at the wheel.
Jordan and Jermel Taylor had been on their way to their grandmother’s house when their mother suffered an epileptic fit on Thursday, 25th February.
The brothers – from the city of Massillon, Ohio State, USA – saw mum Crystal Thompson was about to have a seizure and took control of the car.
Jordan recalled: “I was like, ‘Jermel, I think she’s about to have a seizure’, and all I knew was her neck was, like, turned back and it fell against the window.”
The vehicle was reportedly heading for a concrete wall on the side of the road, when Jermel grabbed the steering wheel.
He said: “While she was having the seizure, I thought to myself, ‘Let’s not injure all the people on the road in the cars, and let’s try to keep everybody safe.’
“I decided to grab the wheel and turn into a safer place.”
He managed to direct the SUV into the grass verge and brought it to a stop in a ditch.
Meanwhile, Jordan turned off the engine and called 911 to get paramedics for their mum.
He said: “I was, like, so scared.”
Thompson – who does not remember the incident – was rushed to hospital.
She said she only realised how serious the drama had been when she came to in the back of an ambulance.
Crystal said: “Honestly, I was just so thankful that they knew exactly what to do for me because they’ve seen me have seizures before, but this one really was just out of the blue.
“I will say I’m very much thankful for my fiance who taught them how to drive a tractor and my dad has taught them how to ride Go-Karts, so that’s always a plus.”
City Hall officials later honoured the twins for their bravery.
They said in a statement obtained by Newsflash: “Today Mayor Kathy and Sergeant Aiello were honoured to recognize 11-year-old twins Jordan and Jermel Taylor.”
Aiello added: “Their brave actions are honourable and we just want them to know that we appreciate everything that they have done for themselves, their mother and for the community.”
