She is being taken out of the hospital on a gurney as several medical staff stand at the side and applause apprently in celebration of her overcoming COVID-19.

The 101-year-old is seen waving at the staff as she is pushed through the doors and her daughter Mari Carmen also shows her gratitude by waving and blowing kisses at them.

Mari Carmen posted a video thanking everyone for assisting in Encarnacion’s recovery saying: “I want to thank the doctor who behaved very well.

“I cannot thank him enough. I also want to thank the nurses and the entire staff that attended us wonderfully and took care of us giving us everything we needed.

She went on to offer encouragement to others that may be suffering from the virus saying: “I hope this serves as hope for everyone that is ill.

“My mother at 101 years of age has got through this. This illness has treatment. We have to fight this because there is a way through this.”

Local media report Encarnacion was immediately checked into hospital on 15th March after testing positive for the virus due to her advanced age.

She reportedly suspects she contracted the virus after a family member visited her in early March to attend a neighbour’s funeral.

Biescas Mayoress Nuria Pargada said: “She has given hope and encouragement to continue fighting and her family is very grateful to the medical staff, neighbours and friends for their support.”

Pargada went on to add her regret of the “bad situation in Biescas” after cases of COVID-19 continue to rise in the area even causing the death of a man, younger than Encarnacion, after several days in hospital.

Local media report there have been other patients across Spain to overcome the virus despite being of advanced age including a woman reported as Pepita, 98, who recently overcame the virus at a hospital in the Spanish capital of Madrid.

Spain has been one of the hardest-hit countries by COVID-19 with a reported 102,136 cases leading to 8,464 deaths, according to the latest figures from the Johns Hopkins University.
