100s Of Charred Bones And Bullet Casings Found In Mexico

The Mexican authorities have reported finding hundreds of charred bones along with used bullet casings and our now investigating to see if the remains are human.

The finding was made on a rural road that leads to the town of El Puerto La Borrega, in the municipality of Madera, in Mexico’s northeastern state of Chihuahua on the border with the United States.

According to a press release by the State Attorney General, police from the State Investigation Agency, agents from the Public Ministry and forensic experts processed the area as part of an investigation in search of missing persons.

The official report confirms that two different sites of clandestine burn pits were found where hundreds of calcined bone fragments were uncovered.

The fragments were collected and duly packed for analysis in the Expert Services laboratories.

According to national newspaper Debate, these bones will now be analysed to see if they are human.

Several bullet casings fired by a 7.62 x 39 mm-calibre weapon were also reportedly seized.

According to statistics from the National Institute of Statistic and Geography there were 36,685 homicides in Mexico, in 2018.

In the municipality of Madera in April this year, at least 19 people died in a shootout between the criminal group La Linea, the armed wing of the Juarez Cartel, and Gente Nueva, of the Sinaloa Cartel.

According to local newspaper Infobae, for various years the area has been under constant siege from the criminal groups mainly from the Juarez and Sinaloa cartels, who have perpetrated various massacres in defence over the territory near the border.

The investigation into the bones is ongoing.
