Ten ‘voodoo dolls’ believed to have been used in a black magic ritual have been found lined up in a cemetery with photos of real people stuck to them.

The unusual discovery took place at a cemetery in the municipality of Danli in the south-western Honduran department of El Paraiso.

According to local media, the 10 dolls had arms, legs and a face as well as a photograph of a real person believed to have been targeted by black magic practitioners.

Residents found the dolls lined up on the grave of a man who died 25 years ago, according to reports.

Cemetery manager Alfredo Gonzalez said that no one asked for permission from the interred man’s family to leave the dolls there.

Local resident Victorian Castillo, who found photos of his daughter and son-in-law stuck to two of the dolls, told reporters: “They live in Tegucigalpa [Honduran capital] and I have no idea who wants to hurt them.”

According to local media, residents have frequently complained that people congregate in the cemetery to drink alcohol and take drugs due to the lack of security and a low boundary wall.

Gonzalez said: “We see people going into the cemetery, but we do not pay much attention because they are locals. They do not appear to come here to take part in black magic, but evidently they do.”

Reports said that fearful residents burned the dolls after praying to God together.

It is unclear whether the local authorities are looking into the matter.
