10 Dead Bodies Crammed Into Car And Left Outside Mexican Government Building

Ten dead bodies have been crammed inside a small car and left in front of a government building in Mexico.

The grim find was made in front of the Zacatecas Government Palace in the main square of the city of the same name, in the state of the same name, on Thursday, 6th January.

Initial reports said six bodies had been found. However, that figure has since been revised up to 10.

The Security Department has since released a statement saying it has sent reinforcements to the cities of Zacatecas and Fresnillo, the first- and second-largest in the state respectively.

Reinforcements have also been dispatched to other municipalities that have been affected by recent violence in the state, which lies in the north-central part of the North American country.

The agency also said it has issued alerts in a bid to track down those responsible for the latest incident.

The incident was discovered when a call was made to the emergency services regarding a silver-grey Mazda CX-3 subcompact crossover SUV that had been parked in front of the Government Palace in the Plaza de Armas main square.

A man was observed leaving the vehicle and then walking off, and the bodies were later found inside.

Zacatecas is currently experiencing a wave of violence caused by organised crime groups warring for territorial control.

The past year (2021) has been the most violent on record, with 1,618 intentional homicides registered in the state.

The authorities hope that an increased military and security presence will help to bring those numbers down.
