This is the shocking moment four people escape what would otherwise have been death or serious injury when a jeep left the road and crashed to a stop inches before hitting them.

The fatal accident took place in town Szklarska Poreba in Lower Silesian Voivodeship in south-western Poland at 7PM on 22 December.

The footage from a local CCTV camera shows the family of four walking along the road on a pavement while from the right side a speeding black Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 78-year-old driver behind the wheel suddenly appears, crashing to a stop just behind them as it hits a building.

The family had already tried to flee but were far too slow to escape from the speeding jeep but survived because it hit the wall.

Krzysztof Dlugosz from the District Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Gora informs: “This walk of the family could’ve ended up tragically when the speeding car crashes just centimetres behind them. The driver died on the spot. The car first rammed the barrier separating the pavement from the street and then hit the building wall with enormous strength”.

Rescuers who appeared on the scene of the tragedy could only confirm the death of the jeep’s driver. They tried to resuscitate him, but without success.

The investigators suspect that the cause of the accident was that the driver was going too fast.

Mr Dlugosz adds: “To be sure of the preliminary findings, blood will be tested for the presence of alcohol and drugs. And also the video will be secured and reviewed.”
