This is the touching moment a woman who recently wrote a book to help bereaved pet owners sings a last goodbye to her own beloved dog.

Journalist, writer and comedian Valeria Schapira was singing to her 11-year-old golden retriever Joy at her home in the city of Bueonos Aires, the capital of Argentina.

Ironically, she recently published a book, Adios, a guide to help people cope with the death of their pets.

Valeria got down on her knees next to her dog to sing him the song, ‘Hasta el Final’ (Until the End), by the Spanish singer David Bisbal.

She later shared a video of her singing to Joy, before he died from a tumour in his intestines, with her followers on Instagram.

Valeria said: “Today Joy is gone, and with him, a great portion of my soul. My old crazy friend passed away after an end of a lot of physical pain, with a tumour that took him away in days.

“I will write more about him, there will be time, but now it is the time for his trip to a purer land. Thanks to all who accompanied us in those days with their love, prayers, charm and respect.

“As we always shared our adventures, I wanted to give you a small video, part of our living in those goodbye days in the fight against the disease.”

She is also a comedian and has cancelled some performances of her stand-up show while she comes to terms with the loss of Joy.

It is only a few days since Valeria told her online followers about Joy’s illness and admitted she was struggling to cope.

Valeria said: “I cannot answer the messages, so I prefer to do this through this post: we are shocked, and I am destroyed.

“Joy has a tumour in the intestine and metastasis. We’re having a bad time and trying to make sure he enjoys the time he has left but it is very difficult.”
