This is the moment a woman driver overturns her car on a pavement after mixing up her brake and accelerator pedals.

The incident was caught on CCTV security cameras in Turkey’s biggest city of Istanbul.

The woman, named by police only by her initials of S.C., reportedly tried to brake to avoid hitting a bus but hit the accelerator instead.

She tried to swerve around the bus but clipped the vehicle and ended up careering onto the pavement.

The video footage shows her hit a bagel seller’s stand and a telephone wiring cabinet as the vehicle overturns.

Passersby rush to her aid and tried to right the vehicle which had come to rest on its side.

They also called for an ambulance which quickly arrived on the scene to taker S.C. to a nearby hospital for treatment to her injuries.

Local shopkeeper Tahsin Turhan said: “We heard a noise and came out to see what was going on. We saw the car on its side. 

“There was a woman inside. We turned the car upright and took the woman out of it. She was only slightly injured.” 

Fortunately, nobody else hurt in the incident. 

Police have launched an investigation into the incident which happened in the Bahcelievler district on the European side of the city.
