A pregnant teenage girl was found dead after having been raped and strangled in another case that has shocked Argentina.
The 16-year-old teen, named Ornella Dottori, who was six weeks pregnant, was found by two kids in the area known as Naranjo Esquina, near the city of Alberdi, 100 kilometres (62 miles) south of the city of Tucuman, in the province of Tucuman.
She had been missing for several days but her family did not report her disappearance to the authorities and her body was found having suffered a strong blow to the head and signs of having been strangled and sexually abused.
Preliminary investigations said that the teen, whose murder would be the fifth femicide in Argentina this month, was found almost naked and with several blows in face, genitals and head, and she also had two bricks over her neck.
There was a judicial order to intern the teen in a drug addiction recovery centre.
The teen had published a message in December 2016 on social media, saying: "I grew up on the streets and they think that something bad is going to happen to me" regarding an alleged report of disappearance.
The main suspect of the murder of Ornella, identified as Damian del Valle Fernandez, who had been hunted by police after the victim’s body was found, handed himself in to the police station of the city of Concepcion, in the province of Tucuman, accompanied by his lawyer, and denied being involved in the crime.
Despite his statement, Miguel Angel Varela, the prosecutor in charge of the investigation, ordered his arrest, local media reported.
