This is the bizarre video of what Argentina football fans are calling 'the ghost goal.

The footage shows a shot appearing to go wide, only to pass through the back of a net as if it was a ghost ball for what became a match-winning effort.

Defensores Unidos defender Adrian Martinez netted the unusual only goal of the game against Cambaceres, in the First C Division of Argentine football.

The "ghost goal", as it was called by local media, was confirmed as being legitimate and secured a 1-0 victory for the Defensores Unidos team.

The players certainly are seen celebrating as soon as the ball emerges from behind the net even though it appeared to narrowly miss the target.

The goal also helped Martinez to become one of the leading scorers in the league with 13 strikes to his name so far this season.

The match that took place in the city of Ensenada, in the eastern Argentine province of Buenos Aires.
