A businessman who went on the run after allegedly defrauding 36 people of a massive 749 million GBP is being extradited to face charges.
Chilean businessman Rafael Garay ran away from his home country after the allegations came to light and has been finally caught in Romania.
He is currently being extradited back to the South American country to face a criminal trial for a massive fraud involving 920 million US dollars (749 million GBP) he is alleged to have taken part in.
It is claimed the man defrauded at least 36 people through his company Think&Co but no specific details of how he did so have yet been released.
The man was caught in November in Romania after a worldwide manhunt took place after he absconded.
On 19th November he was placed under house arrest while authorities worked to get him extradited and on 28th December 2016 was taken into custody after the process was approved by Chilean and Romanian authorities.
He was caught after he went to the Embassy of Chile in Romania to request a certificate to get married to a girl he had met there, who has not been named.
Garay began his journey home yesterday (Wednesday) when he was taken to a plane at around 2.30pm while being guarded by four armed soldiers of the International Police. Romanian officers were also in the convoy.
He is due to land in Chile at 10am today (Thursday) following the flight which stopped over in Paris en route.
