A video shows tourists at a luxury hotel scurrying for cover as bullets fly during the arrest of a suspected drug trafficker.

The video shot by one brave hotel guest shows people ducking and crawling for cover in the lobby of the Hyatt hotel of the city of San Jose del Cabo, in the north-western Mexican state of Baja California Sur.

One suspect is brought to the ground by police in the hotel’s lobby entrance. The officers appear to subdue their man with a couple of kicks before restraining him.

He and another suspect were arrested during the operation, which also saw an unknown quantity of drugs and an AK-47 assault rifle seized.

The prosecutor’s office of Baja California Sur said that nobody had been injured during the operation to arrest the two suspected drug traffickers, although the suspects had shot at police in an attempt to avoid arrest.

Police first tried to stop the men by setting up a roadblock but they stopped their vehicle and one ran into the nearby Hyatt hotel.

The other was found at another unknown location nearby.

The two unnamed suspects are men aged 28 and 19 years, believed to have been kept in custody pending the outcome of further police investigations.

Local media said that a further police operation involving road closures failed to yield any more suspects.
