An MMA fighter’s illegal kick sparked a chaotic brawl as angry fans stormed the ring.
The incident happened during a Mixed Martial Arts tournament in the city of Makhachkala, the capital of the Republic of Dagestan in southern Russia.
The incident was filmed on an eyewitness’ smartphone and posted online.
The clip shows Vladimir Mineev and Aziz Dzhumaniyazov duelling it out in the ring.
After the second round, Dzhumaniyazov, who was getting to his feet after being knocked down, kicked Mineev, who was still lying on the floor.
The kick broke the competition’s rules.
Mineev jumped to his feet and punched Dzhumaniyazov in the head. The drama was too much for fans of both athletes to bear and they swarmed into the ring and started brawling.
But the tournament’s organisers managed to calm fan's emotions fairly quickly. The athletes had a chat, apologised to each other and shook hands.
Vladimir Mineev said: "The conflict between me and my opponent has ended. I still love Dagestan and its locals."
Mineev is a Russian kickboxer and MMA fighter.
He is a champion of Europe and the world and winner of the Russian Cup in Thai boxing. He has won 24 of his 26 fights, 12 of them by knockout.
His Russian opponent Aziz Dzhumaniyazov is less experienced, with just three wins and two losses on his record.
It was not reported whether they managed to finish their scheduled bout.
