This is the shocking moment a taxi crosses into the opposite lane on a busy overpass and rams into a motorcycle head on, sending two bikers flying into the air and killing one outright.

The incident took place in the area of Ciudad Azteca in the central Mexican capital Mexico City when the taxi driver reportedly lost control for unknown reasons and veered into the oncoming traffic.

In the CCTV footage, the white taxi is seen suddenly veering from the right-hand lane into the path of the vehicles travelling in the opposite direction.

The cabbie drives directly into an oncoming motorcycle and the two bikers are sent spinning high into the air.

The male motorcyclist in the light-coloured jacket is seen landing on the taxi’s bonnet while the female biker at the back crashes onto the tarmac.

Meanwhile, the taxi hits the road barrier and scrapes along it while the couple’s wrecked bike is seen spinning in the middle of the road.

According to local media, the unnamed male biker died on the spot while his female companion has been hospitalised. There have been no further reports on her condition.

Meanwhile, the taxi driver – identified as 28-year-old Juan Carlos – was injured along with a female passenger in the cab at the time of the accident.

He has been arrested while the local authorities carry out an investigation.

Reports said that other taxi drivers arrived to hurry Juan Carlos away from the scene and even tried to take away his damaged cab.
