Pic shows: The graphic designs of Turkish artist Ugur Gallen who depicts the contrast between war and peace. A young artist is building a huge online following with his powerful images that highlight the contrasts of war and peace and egalitarianism and inequality. Turkish artist Ugur Gallen explained on social media: "I live in Turkey, which happens to be located next door to one of the most dangerous regions in the modern world. "The contrast between these territories reflects two different worlds for me, and it inspired me to portray this in my work. I wish a peaceful future." The Istanbul-based artist uses graphic designs that use contradictory images to make a powerful point. Some pictures use modern iconic photos while others are blended with famous paintings. One design uses the image of the drowned Syrian toddler Alan Kurdi on a holiday beach scene next to a bucket and spade. Another design blends the 1818 painting ‘Wanderer above the Sea of Fog’ by Caspar David Friedrich with a photo of a man looking down on a bombed-out city. Gallen also merged the top half of the iconic photo of the four Beatles crossing Abbey Road by Scottish photographer Iain Macmillan with the bottom half of four prisoners being hanged in Iran. Gallen has quickly built up an Instagram following of 127,000 people and accompanies his hard-hitting images with the hashtag: "ParallelUniverseWarPeace" (translation).
