This is the shocking moment a speeding bus ploughs into a traffic cop and a pedestrian at a busy intersection.

The unnamed driver has reportedly been arrested following the road accident in the town of Guduvanchery in the district of Kanchipuram located in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

The incident was filmed by a CCTV camera and posted on social media where it has been widely shared.

In the footage, a policeman in an orange high-visibility jacket is seen directing the traffic as two pedestrians wait by the side of the road.

A speeding bus suddenly roars into frame and with his back to the oncoming vehicle, the traffic cop instinctively turns just as it smashes into him with full force.

The wayward bus then hits a man and narrowly misses another pedestrian and a motorcyclist, who end up in a heap on the ground.

The policeman, identified as Arun Selavn, was rushed to hospital where he is still receiving treatment.

The injured pedestrian was also hospitalised but has since been discharged, according to local media.

Reports said that the bus driver has been charged and is currently remanded in custody.

The investigation continues.
