Aya Ihab’s videos showing off her lifestyle in the Egyptian capital Cairo regularly notch up millions of likes.

Ihab, who is a popular social media influencer, has 934,000 TikTok followers.

But, it has emerged, her lifestyle was apparently funded by drug dealing, according to local media.

Ihab and her husband, named as Rami Al-Jiwar, were arrested by the Hadayek Al-Ahram Police Department at their apartment in the Hadayek Al-Ahram district, in the Giza Governorate, near the Pyramids.

Police reportedly found almost 86 kilogrammes (189.60 lbs) of cannabis resin hidden under a bed and confiscated EGP 9 million (GBP 238,728) in cash.

Local media said that the popular social media influencer, who lives in Cairo, confessed to drug trafficking.

It was reported that the pair were dealing drugs to customers using their cars, reportedly BMWs. A Toyota Corolla and a BYD were also reportedly seized, according to local media.

Investigators remanded the pair in custody and seized their mobile phones.

Egypt has severe penalties for those convicted of drug trafficking, including life sentences, and, in some cases, the death penalty.
