The dangerous dog pounced on 42-year-old Mohamed Moheb in front of his son as the two returned to their home in Sheikh Zayed City, in Egypt’s Greater Cairo Area, on 27th February.

The pit bull severed some of his nerves and tendons in the vicious attack.

Mohamed was taken to Dar Al Fouad Hospital in 6th of October City, where surgeons transferred nerves from his foot to his arm in an operation.

Local media reported that his heart even stopped for a while as he was being readied for surgery.

At the time of reporting, he remained hospitalised in a coma and battling for his life.

The pit bull is said to belong to celebrity chef Amira Shanab, who presents a popular cooking programme on Egyptian TV.

Local media confirmed on 5th March that her husband had been arrested for leaving the pit bull unchained in the garden.

He is reportedly charged with negligence resulting in injury.

Investigators said the dog often jumped the couple’s garden fence, adding that it was not the first time it had attacked residents in the upscale compound.

Bafflingly, the husband is reported to have claimed that the victim brought the attack upon himself by poking the dog with a stick.

Shanab’s social media accounts have been flooded with angry comments from netizens in recent days.

The injured man’s family has asked members of the public to pray for his speedy recovery.

According to reports, Shanab’s husband could face a year in prison and a fine of up to EGP 300,000 (GBP 8,200) if found guilty.
