A popular Chinese vlogger has been slammed for pulling a dead baby whale out of the sea before jokingly performing CPR and then burying it.

Vlogger ‘Yinghanzi’ filmed the incident in the city of Qingdao in the north-eastern Chinese province of Shandong and uploaded the footage in three short clips.

Reports said that the dead mammal was an Indo-Pacific finless porpoise (Neophocaena phocaenoides), better known as a finless porpoise.

According to the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the small-toothed whale, which are very closely related to oceanic dolphins, are classified as ‘vulnerable’.

The videos caused outrage online, with PETA Asia spokesman Keith Guo telling Asia Wire (AWR):”Even if the dolphin was dead, it is not a prop for people to make silly videos to win likes on social media.

“PETA hopes that the local authorities investigate the incident and find out why they treated a protected animal this way.”

In the first video, the live-streamer is seen pulling the dead porpoise out of the water.

‘Yinghanzi’ said: “We found a stranded porpoise and we are going to drag it onto the beach to perform CPR to save it. Please click to like my video!”

The second clip shows a friend needlessly performing chest compressions on the dead animal as the Chinese vlogger excitedly commentates.

In their final video, the men dig a shallow grave on the beach and bury it in the sand.

The vlogger said: “I hope you can be a healthy porpoise in the next life. Please like my video if you think we are right!”

A Qingdao maritime spokesperson said that “it is hard to contact the live-streamer, and we can’t tell the location and time.”

It is unclear whether the incident will be investigated by the local authorities.
