This is the moment an agile pensioner is filmed climbing a 50-foot tree just so he can retrieve a sofa cover that had been blown away by a gust of wind after he left it out to dry.

The unnamed elderly man, who was reportedly in his 60s, decided to show off his tree-climbing skills instead of calling the local fire service for help.

Mobile phone footage shared by an impressed neighbour from the county of Fuping in Baoding City in North China’s Hebei Province shows the pensioner expertly scaling the tree despite his age.

The agile man reaches the branches of the cottonwood tree, which was said to be some 15 metres (50 feet) tall, then manoeuvres easily through the branches.

The sofa cover, which can be seen stuck at the very top of the branches, had been washed and left out to dry when it was blown away by the gust of wind.

The pensioner grabs it and throws it out the tree before making his way down again.

Social media users have been left in awe at the elderly man’s skills.

‘Guishen Shaonv Tangatang’ said: “This old man is fitter than I am.”

‘Wohuiyou Henduo Tebieduo Chaojiduo Qian De’ added: “Are these the senior citizens we’re supposed to give our seats to on the bus?”
