A newlywed policeman has lost his life after his motorcycle crashed into the back of a lorry making an illegal U-turn.

Authorities say policeman Zhao Hong, 23, married his wife on Boxing Day 2018.

Zhao and his colleague, Gao Lang, 21, were travelling straight on Ping’An Avenue in Zunyi City in south-western China’s Guizhou province when the fatal collision occurred.

Traffic cameras captured the moment the lorry turned into the centre of the road, obstructing both lanes, as the driver attempted to reach the opposite side of the avenue.

The police motorcycle carrying both officers was unable to brake in time, and the video shows the cops crashing into the rear side of the metal cargo hold.

Both officers are thrown to the ground and the motorcycle rolls away as the clip ends, while footage of the aftermath showing Zhao’s partner sitting on the road with blood all over his face.

The police said Zhao was declared dead at a local hospital following failed attempts to revive him. His cause of death has not been announced.

Gao remains in treatment for serious head and facial injuries.

The lorry driver has reportedly been detained as an investigation into the incident continues.
