This footage shows an MP bursting into tears and howling in pain during a parliamentary session after receiving a phone call informing her that daughter had just been murdered.

The video highlights the wave of violence that has struck Mexico and underlines the tragic cost for those left behind with 21,283 people murdered so far this year in the country – nearly 20 percent more than last year.

The murder of the member of parliament’s medical student daughter occurred in the city of Ciudad Mendoza in the state of Veracruz in Mexico when 22-year-old Valeria Cruz Medel was shot nine times while exercising at the gym.

The video shows her mother Carmen Medel Palma, from the National Regeneration Movement (Morena), breaking down in tears and screams of sadness after receiving the news while her colleagues try to console her.

She can be seen screaming out loud as a female colleague hugs her tightly.

The session of parliament was reportedly ended and postponed.

Valeria, a medicine student, was shot nine times by an individual who escaped the scene, according to local media.

The governor of Veracruz, Miguel Angel Yunes, explained that Valeria was presumably confused with another woman of similar physical appearance who goes to the same gym and has been identified as being close to a member of a criminal gang.

Two men were arrested in connection with the murder and they reportedly told investigators a man known as ‘El Richy’ had been the gunman. The body of the main suspect was later found dead in a van, according to reports.

The investigation is ongoing.

Netizen ‘Jose Luis Bernal’ commented: “Unbelievable. Disgusting.”
