A mother has been charged with torturing her six-year-old son and starving him to death.

The little boy, named only as Osman Cinar K., was taken to hospital after he collapsed at his home in the Torbali district of western Turkey’s Izmir Province.

The tragic youngster died in hospital after medics allegedly found scars and burn marks on his emaciated body.

Police later arrested the boy’s mother, named as Ozge K., 28, after doctors reported the injuries they found.

Doctors said it appeared the youngster had not eaten for days and they determined the cause of death as malnourishment.

The children’s father, named as M.K., who was serving a prison sentence for drug dealing, was released for his son’s funeral at the local Ayrancilar Mosque.

Police arrested Ozge K. and took his older brother, S.C.K., aged nine, and younger brother, three-year-old O.K., who both also showed alleged signs of violence, into the care of their grandfather in Turkey’s biggest city of Istanbul.

Ozge K. has been detained in police custody. She faces charges of causing the death of her son.
