This is the startling moment a minibus flies into pedestrians after a high-speed head-on collision with another vehicle.

The shocking incident occurred in the town of Ballito, in eastern South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal province and was recorded by a CCTV camera.

In the video, pedestrians can be seen waiting to cross the busy junction when a minibus comes speeding down the road.

The driver of a red car then tries to turn in front of the speeding minibus, and the two vehicles collide head-on.

The minibus is sent speeding towards the pedestrians in the collision and the driver cannot avoid crashing into two women stood waiting to cross the road.

Both women are knocked to the ground as the minibus comes to a halt and one of them lies motionless whilst the other writhes in pain.

Local media report paramedics arrived shortly after but one of the female pedestrians was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other woman is said to have suffered light injuries whilst four passengers from the minibus were hospitalised with cuts and fractures.

Spokesperson for the local police Colonel Thembeka Mbele confirmed that an investigation into the incident had been launched.
